Toulouse (France), 1948. He is founding member and principal viola of Pierre Boulez’s Ensemble Intercontemporain. He has performed as soloist alongside the most prestigious orchestras with a repertoire ranging from baroque music to Bruch, Berlioz, Bartók, Stravinsky, Martinu and Mozart. He was artistic director of the National Chamber Orchestra of Toulouse between 2002 and 2004. He has played with the National Orchestra of France, Radio France Philharmonic, Lille National Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Capitole de Toulouse, Montpellier Symphony, the Suisse Romande, Luxembourg Philharmonic and Sao Paulo Symphony. He was Head Professor of the BBVA Viola Chair of the Reina Sofía School of Music until the 2005-2006 academic year. His discography includes Schubert’s Trout for Virgin Classics, a recital alongside Levinas and Hindemith for AEON and a recital album of Russian repertoire alongside Maria Joao Pires for Deutsche Grammophon.
