Tübingen (Germany). Michael Höltzel was born in Tübingen (Germany). He studied horn and viola in Stuttgart and later horn and conducting in Salzburg. He was the first horn with so relevant orchestras as the Bamberg Symphonic or the Munich Philharmonic. Also he has performed as soloist with prestigious orchestras and conductors. Höltzel gave horn classes in the Mozarteum of Salzburg and he continued with his pedagogical tasks in Munich. He has been guest professor in Bloomington (the United States) and Tokyo. Since 1973 he gives horn and chamber music classes in the High Music School of Detmold, where he has trained excellent horn players such as Bruno Schneider, Eric Terwilliger, Radovan Vlatkovic and Alessio Allegrini. In 2000 he left his Chair in Detmold, in order to dedicate more time to the orchestra conducting and the international level teaching. It is very significant his recording of the horn concerts by Mozart with the well-known Camerata Academica of Salzburg in 1972 (as soloist and conductor). This recording was acclaimed by the world-wide critic and it has been recently reedited in compact disc. Conducting the Camerata, he has carried out tours in Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Latin America. As guest conductor of orchestras and groups, he visits diverse cities of the world; among them Hamburg, Munich, Weimar, Bloomington, Bordeaux, Caracas, Helsinki, Cracovia, Milan, Prague, Parma, Ravenna, Rome, Tallin, etc. In addition to his activities like conductor, at the present time Höltzel is guest professor in the Arturo Toscanini Foundation in Bologna (Italy) and the Hamburg Conservatory.
