Naples (Italy), 1935. Born in Naples (Italy), he studied Piano and Composition at the Milan Conservatoire with Bruno Bettinelli. In 1956 and 1958 he won the first prize at the Darmstadt International Competition. Since then he has had an important international career as soloist and in chamber ensembles. He has accompanied great artists such as violinists Itzhak Perlman, Saschko Gavriloff, cellist Siegfried Palm, flutist Severino Gazzelloni or the singer Cathy Berberian, amongst others. He has also collaborated with the pianists Antonio Ballista and András Schiff. He is member of the Milan Trio, with Filippini and Ferratese. He has premiered a great number of contemporary works, some of which where written for him, by Luciano Berio, Franco Donatoni, Mauricio Kagel, Rolf Lieberman, Wolfgang Rihm or Iannis Xenakis. He has also written modern works for various cahmber ensembles: Cadenze, Impromtu numbers 1 and 2 and Piano Rage Music. He is Professor at the Milan Conservatoire since 1961.
