New York, 1932. The soprano Reri Grist has for many years enjoyed a successful career in the music, theater and television fields. Her career started when she was in her teens performing musicals in Broadway, participating in original cast of West Side Story and continuing in the most important opera halls. She started at the Zurich opera in 1960 and since then has given performances in renowned venues such as the Metropolitan in New York, San Francisco Opera, Vienna State Opera, Munich State Opera, Royal Opera House, Convent Garden and at the Salzburg and Glyndebourne Festivals. Her opera repertory embraces all Mozart and Richard Strauss roles; among them: Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, Susana in Le nozze di Figaro, Blondchen in Die Entführung aus dem Serrail and Despina in Cosí fan tutte. She has also been Gilda in Rigoletto and Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia. Her last performance took place at the Nederlanske Oper in Amsterdam during the 1990-1991season in Morton Feldman’s “one woman opera” Neither. At the end of her performance received an ovation, with the public standing, culminating thirty years of a successful career. She has sang with the New York Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Munich State Opera, under the batons of the most renowned conductors: Levine, Bernstein, Boulez, Mehta, Osawa, Böhm, Karajan and Sawallisch, and the following stage managers: Günther Rennert, Giorgio Strehler, Ruth Berghaus, Otto Schenk and Jean Pierre Ponelle. Reri Grist has recorded for the DGG, Sony, EMI/Angel and other labels, in addition to several opera production for television and cinema that brought closer the sopranos artistic work to the public. She has been voice professor at the School of Music of the Indiana University in Bloomington, and the Advanced School of Music and Theater in Munich, Germany. Has given master classes at the Opera Studio/Merola in San Francisco, International Opernstudio of the Zurich Opera, the Richard Strauss Society in Munich, also teaching at the Stearns Institute in Ravinia. During the 2007-2008 season has been invited to participate in the master classes programme of the Metropolitan Opera in New York and of the Hamburg State Opera. Reri Grist was honored with the title of Bavaria Kammersängerin and has also received the Legacy Award of the American National Opera Association.
