Ramsés Martínez Millán

Born in Aragua, Venezuela, in 1999. Since 2020, he studies at the Reina Sofía School of Music’s Unidad Editorial Double Bass Chair, first with professor Duncan McTier and currently with professor Wies de Boevé. He has been granted scholarships by MAEC/AECID and Fundación Albéniz. Her Majesty Queen Sofía handed him the Diploma to the most outstanding student of his chair in the 2022-2023 academic year.

He began his music studies at Venezuelan Sistema of Orchestras in 2011 with Francisco Javier Viloria Cedeño. He has attended masterclasses by professors Klauss Stoll, Félix Petit, Edicson Ruiz, Dorin Marc, Alain Posch, Matthew McDonald, and Philipp Stubenrauch.

In 2012 he joined the Children’s National Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, where he had the opportunity to work with maestro Simon Rattle. In 2014 he won the position of first double bass in the José Félix Ribas Symphony Orchestra, in 2016 the position of principal double bass in the Aragua Symphony Orchestra, and in 2017 he entered the National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela.

He has participated as soloist in the first Double Bass Festival of the State (Venezuela), performing Johann Baptist Vanhal’s double bass concerto, and as a guest soloist with the Aragua Symphony Orchestra. He has also made his debut as soloist with several orchestras in the country.

As a student of the School, he has has performed with the Freixenet Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Juanjo Mena and Péter Csaba; with the Freixenet Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Sir András Schiff and Andrés Salado; with the Baroque Ensemble of the School, conducted by Paul Goodwin, and within the World Heritage Cities series in Salamanca. He has been part of the Unidad Editorial Bottesini Double Bass Quintet and the Barroco and the Fundación Mutua Madrileña ensembles. He is currently a member of the Unidad Editorial Dittersdorf Double Bass Quartet and the Viena Octet.
