Van de Velde, Nicholas
Nicholas Van de Velde started playing when he was 5. He received his first lessons from his father. It became obvious very soon that he had exceptional talents when he became 1st prize winner of the national contest Grétry and laureate of the international competition Epta.
At the age of 9, he was admitted to the Queen Elisabeth College of Music, where he studied and still is in the class of Abdel Rahman El Bacha and Dimitris Saroglou. During his studies at the College of Music, he has garnered a lot of good results, he became 1st winner of Young Soloists aan Zee, Rotary Breughel (2x), Cantabile, Cavatine Namur, Charlier match in Charleroi, National Steinway competition. Recently, he won for the second time a 1st prize in the competition Cantabile and became 2nd winner of the 'Stephan de Jonghe' contest .
He was 10 years old when he got to plat the 2nd piano concerto by Mozart with orchestra on invitation of Queen Paola. Nicholas was already performing a lot of concerts in beautiful venues such as The Palace of Fine Arts, DeMunt, De Singel, and numerous other cities and towns in the Netherlands and abroad. A few years ago he represented our country in the international Steinway Festival in Hamburg, where he played in the prestigious Laeiszhalle. In France, he was a guest at the prestigious festival of Vexin.
Nicholas already has performed several times with orchestras such as the Limburg Youth and Music Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Belgium, ... in concertos by Mozart, Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff 's 2nd piano concerto, 1st piano concerto by Chopin.
Nicholas took part at 'de muziekkapel' in numerous master classes by famous masters like Menahim Pressler, Dimitri Bashkirov, Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden.
Since 2012 Nicholas also follows lessons at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in the class of Jan Michiels.
In addition to solo piano Nicholas is also active in the field of chamber music, often in conjunction with his three other musical brothers.
