Suh, Hyung-Min

He was born in Seoul (South Korea) in 1990. He started to play piano at the age of four. At age seven he won the First Prize in the Korea Times Music Competition. He moved to the United States when he was ten, and soon received spotlight when he won the 2001 New York Philharmonic Young Artists Audition at the age of eleven, performing with Kurt Masur conducting the New York Philharmonic Orchestra at the Avery Fisher Hall. He studied at the Mannes College of Music Preparatory Division in New York with Yuri Kim and Vladimir Feltsman. He attended Columbia University as a John Jay Scholar and studied piano at the Juilliard School under the guidance of Emanuel Ax and Matti Raekallio. He also studied with Peter Serkin briefly at Bard College Conservatory. From the upcoming year, he will pursue his master's degree at the Hochschule fur Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. He won the third prize at the 2011 Florida International Piano Competition and second prize at the 2013 Sendai International Music Competition. He has performed in concerts in Korea, Japan, United States and Italy with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Hudson Valley Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic and Sendai Philharmonic. He has also performed in masterclasses with Murray Perahia, Garrick Ohlsson, Jeffrey Kahane, Daejin Kim, Haejeon Lee, Peter Serkin and Emanuel Ax.
