Sakiya, Akihiro

He was born in Nishinomiya (Japan) in 1988. He was tutored by professors Watanabe, Torii, Soares and Araki for his elementary music studies. He then entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse (CNSMD) in Paris, where he was tutored by Jacques Rouvier. After graduating first on the list from CNSMD, he is now enrolled at the Tokyo University of the Arts, in a master’s degree with Akiyoshi Sako. He is a laureate of many international competitions, including Second Prize in the 16th Calabria International Piano Competition in 2006, First Prize in the 3rd Lyon International Piano Competition (2011) and Third Prize in the Busoni Competition (2013). In 2014 he received the First Prize in the 56th Jaen International Piano Competition where he was also awarded the Spanish Music Prize and the Audience Prize. He has performed around the world including the Sao Paulo Beethoven Festival and the Festival de Nohant (France). Besides, he has performed with several orchestras including Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Japan Symphony or Granada City Orchestra, under the baton of Kobayashi, Fagen, Cruz or Mann. His performances have been broadcast on NHK TV in Japan, ABC Radio in Australia, and RAI in Italy. His CD dedicated to the Beethoven sonatas was released in 2013.
