Bagaría, José Enrique
José Enrique Bagaría Villazán was born in Barcelona in 1978. He completed all his studies as a private student and won top prizes in the elemental and intermediate grades, in 1990 and 1993 respectively. He graduated with honours in piano from the Conservatori Superior de Música Municipal de Barcelona.
He began his studies with Rosa Masferrer. He would later further them with Luiz de Moura Castro and also Aquiles delle Vigne (1992-93) at the École Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot in Paris, where he came first in the final examinations. He completed his postgraduate at the Conservatori Superior del Liceu de Barcelona with Professor Stanislav Pochekin. From 1999 to 2003, he continued his training at the Banco Santander faculty of piano in the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, under the tutorship of Dimitri Bashkirov, holder of the chair, and also Galiana Eguiazarova and Claudio Martínez Mehner. He was nominated best student in the 2001-2002 course. He then moved to the Richard Strauss Conservatorium in Munich and studied under Professor Vadim Suchanov from 2003 to 2006.
He has taken classes with pianists of recognised international prestige, such as Alicia de Larrocha, Josep M. Colom, Elisso Virsaladze, Leon Fleisher, Andrzej Jasinski, Ralph Gothoni, Bruno Canino, Vitaly Margulis, Andrew Watts, Edit Fischer and Boris Petrushnsky.
Throughout his career he has given numerous concerts in many different cities, including Cincinnati, New York, Brussels, Rome, Milan, Munich, Paris, Lisbon, Sofia, Bogota, San Salvador, San Jose (Costa Rica), Madrid, Barcelona, Albacete, Girona, Santander, Valladolid, Palencia, Seville, Valencia, Jaen and Granada.
His performances at important national and international festivals deserve particular mention, such as the 5 th cycle for young performers organised by the Scherzo Foundation, the Castell de Peralada and Torroella de Montgrí International Music Festivals, the Santander International Music Festival, the International Festival of Music and Dance in Granada, the 3 rd and 5 th International Festival for Young Pianists in Segovia, the Music festival of the town of Rialp, the 5th International Steinway Festival, and the Paris Competition for Young Talents. He took part in the Ricard Vinyes concert season in 1999 and 2000, giving concerts in Barcelona, Granada, Seville and Minorca. Venues of special note where he has performed include the Palau de la Música Catalana, the Auditori de Barcelona , the Auditorio de Madrid , the Auditorio Manuel de Falla in Granada, the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando (the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts) and the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, the Alfred Cortot concert hall in Paris and the Dall Verme Theatre in Milan.
He has recorded with Rádio Nacional Classica (Spanish National Radio) for the classical music programme "Soloists from the 21 st century". He has also played as a soloist with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, the Orquestra Simfònica de València, the Orquesta Sifónica de Castilla y León, the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, the Salzburger Kammerphilarmonie, and the Filarmónica de Bogotá.
He was a member of the panel of judges for the Spain National Competition for Young Musicians, held in Minorca in April 2000.
He formed a duet with the violinist Josep Colomé at the 11th Festival of Contemorany Music in San Salvador on 20 february 2006, and they perfomed again a few days later at the Auditorio Nortemaricano of San José in Costa Rica. On 26th September 2006 played at the 6th Festival of the town of Rialp and was very warmly received by the public. Sometimes he formed a duet with the violloncelist Pau Codina.
Apart from his concert appearances he teaches at the Conservatorio Superior de Aragón and the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu de Barcelona.
